A Guide to Brown Bear Country

“Many people feel that bears are unpredictable. Well, I think that bears feel the same way about us, that we’re unpredictable.”

Dr. Larry Van Daele, wildlife biologist with Alaska Fish and Game, has been studying Brown Bears for over 25 years. In this film series he shares with us his expertise and experience of living with and around Brown Bears. In Dr. Van Daele explains how the bears perceive humans and our actions and how we can understand the bear by its actions and respond correctly. “Consistency is the key to good bear-human relations.”

In Dr. Van Daele demonstrates the tools that are available in the event that a situation arises where you may need to assert your authority over the bear or defend yourself. “All said, the best tool you have is what you have between your ears.”
