A documentary by Stefan Quinth, Length 40 min.
The
elephant has long been a symbol of wisdom and strength and has been both
admired and feared by people everywhere. But even though the Asian
elephant has often been worshipped as a god, today, it is facing
extinction. This is a film about the difficult situation for the
elephant on the island of Sri Lanka. As an effect of the civil war
the animals protected forests are being destroyed by soldiers, tanks and
mines. The elephants are forced to leave the national parks for an
uncertain future, in continuous conflict with the local people. The
film shows efforts made by the Sri Lankan government to save the Ceylon
Elephant.
